Reducing Ecological footprint
The environment is very near and dear to my heart. It is easy to find the beauty in nature. However, the more wasteful a society is, the more this beauty disappears. I am currently taking a conservation class and it got me thinking about wasting energy and resources. How can I reduce my ecological footprint? Here are a few ideas to decrease your impact on our lovely planet.
1. Take the Bus
Using transit instead instead of driving is a great way to reduce the impact of carbon emissions on the environment.
2. Turn out the Light
At home, my brother was notorious for not turning off the light or the TV when he left a room. They would stay on for hours sometimes. If this is a problem that you struggle with, a good strategy is to create little reminders and tape them to your switches. You can also use natural light to replace artificial light within your home.
3. Turn off the Tap when you are Brushing your Teeth.
Some people like to keep the tap running when they are brushing their teeth. Don’t waste water!
4. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
There is so much in the landfills today that could be either recycled or repurposed. Use those old butter containers instead of buying new Tupperware! Have some old, one-sided papers? Turn them into notepads! It is easy to repurpose items. If you need a drawer organizer, use an empty Q-tip box.
5. Skip the Blow Dryer
If you dry your hair after a shower or a bath, skip the blow dryer and either towel or air dry your hair. Blow dryers use up a lot of energy!
Use these suggestions if you are looking for an extra way to help reduce your ecological footprint, or just want to be a bit more green!
